Overview
The brief.
Expand the tournament’s visibility far beyond the people attending, and capture its on-the-ground energy while interest was at its peak.

The Challenge
Photos posted after the event reach almost no one.
Regional tournaments usually rely on static photos posted after the event. That approach rarely conveys the energy on the ground or reaches anyone beyond the people who attended. The tournament’s account also hadn’t been posting before, so it was starting from a small audience.
the solution
Covered like a creator, not a photographer.
I captured and published content from the sidelines as matches happened, rather than waiting to produce polished recaps. I chose authentic, in-the-moment Reels over heavily templated graphics, since that is the format platforms favour during live events, and published 12 Reels and 4 posts over the week, all cross-posted to Facebook. The content was made for players and families to save and share, paired with trending audio and clear, searchable captions, with confident results content, such as the “Clean Sweep” champions post, front and centre.
The results
24,500+ Instagram views
Top Reels reached 9.7K, 7.3K and 7.2K views
4,635 accounts reached
78% of views came from non-followers
685 profile visits
112 new followers, tripling the follower count
54.3% of accounts reached were aged 25–44, the parent age bracket
Top cities reached: Brisbane 11.2% · Sydney 10.7% · Townsville 10.2%
Instagram only, 13–19 April 2026; Facebook would add to the totals. Percentage increases are left out because the account wasn’t posting beforehand.
